Food for your Face

(Posted: Monday, January 30th, 2012)

In order to have beautiful skin, you must start on the inside,
according to nutritionist Joy Bauer. Making a daily decision to
consciously choose foods that will improve the functions of your skin can make for a lasting, beautiful complexion. Among all of the healthy food choices on the market, some of the simple ones can be the most effective in keeping our skin looking young and vibrant. The top five beauty foods you should start eating today are walnuts, sweet potatoes, strawberries, cucumbers, and spinach.
Walnuts are a good source of Omega 3s. These fatty acids allow
water and nutrients to enter our cells and help to create a natural barrier, keeping toxins out. This maintains the integrity of our cell membranes, resulting in hydrated and supple skin. Omega 3s are also known to help protect our skin from sun damage. If you have a nut allergy, Salmon is also a great source of Omega 3s.
Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of Vitamin A/beta carotene.
Vitamin A is a powerful antioxidant that aids in tissue repair. It has actually been known to repair sun damaged skin.
Strawberries are a wonderful source of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is an
antioxidant that stimulates collagen production on a cellular level,
thus known as the anti aging vitamin. Vitamin C fights free radical
damage and protect your delicate tissues from cellular destruction. If you have an allergy to strawberries, kiwis are also a great source of Vit C.
Cucumbers are composed of 95% water. By eating your water, you can
reduce the effects of puffy eyes and swollen ankles from the inside
out, according to Board Certified Dermatologist Dr. Murad. The skin of a cucumber is also very rich in Vitamin C and Vitamin A.
Spinach is a great source of Vitamin E/Tocopherol. Vitamine E
protects the integrity of cell membranes and guards them against UV
damage. Vitamin E can improve the elasticity, hydration and lipid
content of the skin.
Studies show that eating healthy foods, rather than taking their
supplements, greatly increases the benefits to your skin. Consider
integrating these top five beauty foods in to your diet this month and make a lasting impression on your face.
