Instructors
The Instructors at the College of International Esthetics, Inc. all come from professional Esthetician and/or medical backgrounds. Each Instructor truely cares about the success of his/her students.
Arlene Malay - Owner
Arlene has been in the beauty business since 1964 when she joined her mother and sister Judy in their salon. Arlene worked for the next 18 years in Boulder, CO.
Arlene's husband Claude's career eventually led her to Arizona where she obtained her instructors license and began to specialize in skin care. She attended the advanced Institute of Aesthetics in Tucson and was privileged to be a student of Robert Diemer. Arlene eventually was instrumental in opening and accrediting three colleges in Arizona: Mesa, Tempe and Glendale. She then moved to California and was supervisor of two colleges. Arlene and Claude returned to Colorado in 1999 to take care of her aging parents. In 2004 Arlene was given the opportunity to open her own skin care college, and the rest is history.
Arlene's passion is to give the students everything they deserve and need to succeed in the esthetic field.
Victoria Peterson - Admissions Representative
Victoria has been in the industry for 30 years. She began her career as an image consultant, personal shopper, putting together fashion shows and fashion/spiritual workshops. Victoria was a senior director and national trainer for a skin care company for 12 years. Ten years ago she got her esthetics license and opened up her own spa "La Dolce Vita Spa" in Colorado Springs, CO.
After five years of owning her spa Victoria made the decision it was time to give back to the industry in a new way, so she sold her spa and is now at CIE teaching, Director of Admissions and a spa consultant.
Dr. Rebecca de la Torre - Medical Director and Laser and Injectable Instructor
Dr. de la Torre is a graduate of Stanford University and the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. She is board certified in Family Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, Colorado Academy of Family Practice, Colorado Medical Society, and the Larimer County Medical Society. She was involved in Family Practice in Loveland for several years before focusing on skin specialties and is currently a member and Fellow of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. While practicing in Loveland, de la Torre was named Group Publishing's Best Doctor of Northern Colorado for six consecutive years. Dr. de la Torre is also a Syneron Luminary and spokesperson on the use of Syneron Lasers at conferences nationwide.
Nancy Nation - Supervising Instructor
Nancy's love of the esthetics field has grown and she has continued her education by attending many educational events, conferences and advanced classes. Nancy has been Supervisor of programs, as well as curriculum planning, has worked budgets and has served as a liaison to businesses through communication and advisory committees. She has proved to be an invaluable asset to her school, students and fellow instructors.
Nancy started her career in the Beauty Industry in 1964. She was awarded the Colorado Private Schools TEACHER OF THE YEAR award by her students which tells the caliber of her skills not only as an educator but a humanitarian.
Judy Sale - Esthetic Instructor
She taught at several other schools before landing her place here at College of International Esthetics, Inc. Judy has 42 years of experience, knowledge and technical ability to offer the students.
Judy has been a licensed Cosmetologist since 1967. After receiving her license she worked in the industry for about two years. She then made the decision to get her instructor's license which opened up the opportunity for her to teach at "Royal Beauty Academy" in Arizona. She then took a leap of faith and owned, "We "R" Styling" salon. She then added the state board license of permanent makeup to her career which was very financially beneficial and rewarding. Judy then moved to Colorado six years ago and decided to pursue her teaching career again.
Makayla O'Dell - Esthetic Instructor
Makayla is a former student of the College of International Esthetics. After graduating from school, Makayla attended many advanced training seminars and eventually opened her own Esthetics business and started her own organic body product line. Makayla has a Bachelors of Social Work, Minor in Psychology. She has also been a product educator for Youngblood makeup.
Kathleen LaMonaca - Esthetic Instructor
Kathleen was a wedding photographer for over 6 years and noticed how important the appearance of the skin was, so she decided to pursue a career in the skin care industry. She received her Esthetician License in 1999, worked in several spas and Laser Clinics and managed the Marriott Spa at Coronado Island, San Diego for several years.
Kathleen has been an Esthetics Instructor for six years and recently joined the team of Instructors in the fall of 2009. She is certified in Lasers, Eyelash Extensions, Microdermabrasion and Chemical Exfoliation.
Maggie Staszcuk - Esthetic Instructor
Maggie is a former student of the College of International Esthetics. After graduation from school, Maggie worked at Etheral Day Spa, Natural Balance Integrative Health and Revolutionary MD as a Paramedical Esthetician. Maggie attended Stephens College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Entrepreneurship and Business Management.
Betty Minor - Laser Safety Instructor
Betty Minor, BS, RN, founded Laser Resource, Inc. in 1986. She actively consults and teaches laser safety programs for Hospitals, Surgical Centers, Laser Clinics and Medical Laser Spas across the country. She includes areas of utilization, laser audits, and laser safety evaluations to be sure the facility is in compliance with all the various regulatory agencies such as OSHA, FDA, and CDRH.
Betty was the Operating Room Director of Surgical Services at a major Denver Hospital. Formerly the Director of Education for an east coast based Laser Company. She is an active author of the ANSI Z-136.3 2005, American National Standard Institute, "For the Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care Facilities". Betty was instrumental in the development of the "Medical Laser Safety Program" as well as the "Medical Laser Safety Officer" Seminars, which is recognized throughout the country as the most informative and practical for health care laser facility.
Yvonne Hampson - Laser and Injectable Instructor
Yvonne Hampson became a Registered Nurse in England and worked as a certified Nurse Midwife for 8 years in England and Saudi Arabia prior to coming to the United States. Yvonne is a Certified Facial Laser Technician with expertise in Fotofacial, Fraxel and Thermage for skin rejuvenation and acne. Yvonne has completed advanced training in Botox and derma fillers and is certified in laser vein removal and sclerotherapy.
Lorna Kay Silva - Herbalist Instructor
Lorna Kay Silva is a Master Herbalist, Iridologist, Nutritional Consultant and Certified Natural Health Professional. She has been helping others with their health for 19 years through individual consultations and teaching holistic health seminars. She is currently teaching the following programs at the College of International Esthetics, Inc.: Herbalist, Master Herbalist, Iridology and Chinese Face, Tongue, Nail. Lorna is constantly searching for a greater breadth and depth of knowledge to share with others.
Maryann V. Kosinski - Reiki Instructor
Maryann is a guest instructor that teaches our Reiki classes. Maryann received her B.A. in Public Relations and English; is a licensed Massage Therapist and Certified Reiki Master Teacher.
